Valentines Day, Yay or Nay?

VALENTINES DAY IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!! Read it, read it again. Think about that for just a second before you continue.

Now, you probably just had one of these reactions:

1. The “single” girl: You just took a deep, pitiful breath, rolled your eyes, and/or did the Elvis lip raise for a split second (but not in the sexy way, in the “whatever, FML” way). You’ve quickly brainstormed the possibility of:
   • Settling for a Valentine's Day date with Brian down the hall that keeps drunk-texting you.
   • Re-kindling the fizzled love between you and your ex is always an option. Oh no wait, he has a girlfriend now…
   • Maybe I can meet someone new before then! I have enough time, right?
   • Gathering some gal-pals together to drown your single sorrows in a few XL bottles of Cupcake Pinot Grigio while watching anti-romance movies.

1. The “I’m taken” girl: You instantly smiled and thought of your significant other. You feel a sense of completion and satisfaction knowing you won’t be alone on the Day of Love. Your thoughts quickly escalate to “I wonder if he planned anything yet? He better take me someplace nice...What do I wear? Oh that reminds me I have to book my wax appointment. Do you think he'll propose? Gosh I’m going to get so many great social media pics! He's been pissing me off lately, but I'll get over it before V-Day.”

1. The “Independent” girl: Thinking of Valentines Day just now didn’t phase you like the #1 and #2 girls. There were no thoughts of jealousy, anger, entitlement or boastfulness. It’s just another day after all, but it’s even better. It’s a day of love! And chocolate, and wine. Who doesn’t love, love, chocolate and wine!?

So ladies, which number are you closest to?

Some of you may say the #3 girl is super cheesy, and clearly single. Ok cheesy, maybe a little, but not necessarily single…

Being independent should be a label that belongs to anyone that has achieved it. It should be used to describe those that are strong, confident and happy with who they are as person. The “Independent” girl doesn’t seek outside forms of fulfillment or completion, she knows that she can stand on her own two feet and that her happiness is no one’s responsibility but her own. (Leave it up to Blaire to know what's up)

Look no one is perfect and negative thoughts do creep into our heads from time to time. Especially on Valentines Day when there are constant, red-hearted reminders left and right that cupid neglected to shoot an arrow your way this year.

However, this Valentines Day, lets step away from the titles and turn our attention to what it’s all about. LOVE! Valentines Day is about love. Love for your family, love for your friends, love for your significant other, love for this incredible life. And no matter what your relationship status is, always make sure self-love comes first.
