KINDNESS: SPRINKLE THAT SH*T EVERYWHERE
So today I was walking through a building -
...and noticed one of the workers cleaning the carpet in the halls. He was much older, maybe in his late 60’s. He had a blank expression, slightly robotic motions with the carpet cleaner and just looked kind of bored and sad. I felt compelled to give him a big smile and a “how’s it going?” He looked slightly taken back and gave me an even bigger smile before saying “well, it’s going”. The fact that he was taken back by this tiniest gesture kind of broke my heart… and inspired me to write this out.
We all know how it feels to receive a smile, or a random compliment. A small gesture has the power to change your mood and day for the better. Why don’t we want to give that same feeling away more freely and more often? With more strangers? Why is this rare? Because we’re not being compassionate, WE’RE SO IN OUR OWN HEADS.
We’re all guilty of it at times. We get into patterns of being so selfishly absorbed in our lives, going about our day trying to improve ourselves with little intention of helping others do the same. We could all use a reminding dose of compassion here and there. This post is your dose.
More often than not, give yourself a reality check: life isn’t always about you.
If you’re living without compassion and kindness, you’re not living your full potential… don’t be that person.
Get into a more frequent habit: genuinely listen to other people, go out of your way to be kind to a stranger, put yourself in their shoes and allow yourself to FEEL for them.
It’s a different kind of joy that comes from having real compassion and making others happy…
So lets have a little challenge today shall we!? Make a strangers day better.
Tell them they have a nice ass, or shirt, or whatever… just be kind. Look at them, observe… give them a genuine compliment. Even a simple smile can improve someone’s day, as you never know what people are going through.
If you practice this, the world will be a better place because of you… and that’s a pretty cool thing.
That is all.
